Pleasant back to The Week in Weed, your Friday look at what’s happening in the world of legalized pot. The House Appropriations committee made an opinion on rescheduling and protecting state constitutional markets this year. An attempt to establish a financial sector in Pennsylvania failed in vain. What is up with hemp-related legislative debates? We nominate a piece of regulations for best cannabis-themed word. And lastly, we note that Snoop Dogg has opened his own clinic.

HOUSE APPROPRIATIONS

In the fiscal year 2025, members of the House Appropriations Committee presented a mixed bag to the marijuana industry with the Commerce, Justice, Science ( CSS) and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. The committee held a markup earlier this month, and a proposal from Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA ) to extend Rohrabacher-Farr protections to state-legal adult-use markets was defeated by Republicans, all but one of whom voted against the measure. State-legal medical cannabis businesses were still protected by the council. Additionally, the policy prohibits the use of funds to cancel cannabis, which has the potential to have serious consequences if it is still included in the legislation. We are, however, a long way from the end line. Keep tuned!

PENNSYLVANIA

If you own a pharmacy in a position bordering Pennsylvania, you got some good information from the Keystone State’s senate. This year, legislators were unable to reach an agreement on adult-use legalization. Democrats were divided on whether state-run shops were the best sales model, and republicans usually opposed legislation. Proponents a plan to revisit the issue when the government reconvenes this fall.

HEMP

As we previously reported, the cannabis industry has been uncomfortable about the farm bill’s enforcement by Congress. Today, a similar “industry-killing” clause may render it into an Agriculture appropriations bill. The vocabulary would forbid the production of goods containing any trace amounts of THC. The act does, yet, call for rules, rather than restriction. Again, we’re a long way from finished with this, but we ca n’t blame the hemp industry for their concern.

DOOBIE ACT

Legislators usually give their expenses names, creating an easy acronym. This year, we offer up a new act as “best cannabis-themed acronym actually”. The DOOBIE Act may restrict the ability of governmental agencies to employ previous cannabis use as a determinant in hiring or obtaining a security clearance. The Dismantling Outdated Hurdles and Barriers to Individual Employment Act is the bill’s full title.

AND Then

Snoop Dogg has long been a subject of conversation about his involvement with and support for the hemp market. Then, he has opened his second fully-licensed cannabis clinic in Los Angeles.

Be also people, and we’ll see you next year.
